013 Are You Fear FULL or Fear LESS?
I’ve often heard the definition of courage as “being afraid and then doing the thing anyway, whatever your thing is.” The precise Merriam-Webster definition is: mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.
Key word: Withstand.
That feeling will happen…but we don’t have to allow it to stay.
You can work through those fears intellectually, using a thought model (if you’ve ever had a session with me, you know what those are).
You can also apply your faith and listen to what scripture tells us: to not fear, not be afraid.
Isaiah 43:1 (my favorite) and 41:10 are just a few. There are literally 365 references to NOT being AFRAID in the bible. Before you start rolling your eyes, thinking, “Whatever. I get it…” hear me out.
Why do you think it’s in the bible so often? Literally one for every day of the year.
He made you. He knows you. He’s with you…
- With every nauseous prayer on the cold, bathroom tile at 2am
- With every moan of grief in the bed that used to cradle your spouse
- With every desperate call that you almost make but pride stops it cold
He is with you.
You can be afraid and choose to go it alone…with all that fear that will cozy up to you.
Or make a decision to give that fear to God and take inspired action instead.
What's the worst that can happen?
